A Windsor-area company has landed a contract worth nearly $60 million for work relating to the forthcoming Gordie Howe International Bridge.
The Oldcastle, Ont.,-based Amico Infrastructures Inc., has been selected as the contractor to complete the early works on the site of the Canadian port of entry, according to Heather Grondin of the Windsor-Detroit Bridge Authority.
Grondin said the contract is valued at about $59 million, before HST is factored in.
According to Grondin, the early works "relates to three main activities to take place at the Canadian port of entry lands." These are the construction of a perimeter access road, utility relocations and fill placement.
Work is expected to take two years and needs to be accomplished before work can begin on the bridge itself.
The cost of building the bridge is estimated to be more than $2 billion.
Amico was one of the main contractors involved with the construction of the Herb Gray Parkway.
