Edmonton and Calgary will be hit, as well as national parks
Hold your breath — Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for much of the province due to smoke from wildfires in B.C.
- Largest wildfire in Washington state's history sending smoke into B.C.
- Smoky skies advisories remain in place for southern B.C.
The statement, which covers most of southern and central Alberta, warns that smoke from the fires is likely to "mix down" to the surface this afternoon.
"There is still uncertainty as to how concentrated the smoke will be at the surface, but there could be significant reductions in visibility and air quality," the statement reads.
The advisory area includes both Calgary and Edmonton, as well as Red Deer, Drumheller and Lethbridge.
Alberta Health Services has issued an air quality advisory for the Calgary zone because of the smoke.
"In the current conditions, even healthy individuals may experience temporary irritation of eyes and throat, and possibly shortness of breath," AHS said in a statement.
Both Jasper and Banff national parks can also expect smoke.
