Police dog Baylee, RCMP and ground search teams found hikers at 11 p.m. Wednesday
Two women who became stranded while hiking in Timberlea, N.S., were found safe and in good health late Wednesday, according to Halifax RCMP.
Police say ground search teams, RCMP officers and Baylee — a police service dog — responded to the Bluff Wilderness Hiking Trail around 8:15 p.m. The hikers's cellphones were used to determine their location.
A 30-year-old Halifax woman and a 26-year-old woman from Sydney were found just after 11 p.m. Wednesday, about 11 kilometres into the woods.
Police say they began their trek around 4:30 p.m. with the intention of hiking one of four trail systems. They realized they'd gone too far after nightfall and couldn't find their way back.
Once they were found, ground search teams dispatched a boat to transport the hikers across a lake back to the trailhead around 2:45 a.m.
