A 17-year-old has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of an 18-year-old at a northwest affordable housing complex.
Police were called about a stabbing in an apartment building at Northmount Drive and 19th Street N.W. at about 1:30 a.m. MT Sunday.
When officers arrived they found a seriously injured 18-year-old man. He was taken to hospital with critical injuries and later died, officials said.
The 17-year-old charged Monday can't be named under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act. A second young man is also being questioned.
The victim's identity will be released after the autopsy, police said.

Guests of tenant

The organization that owns and runs the complex, McMan Youth, Family and Community Services Association, issued a release Monday calling the incident tragic. The victim and the accused were guests of a resident, said executive director Soraya Saliba in a press release.
"Our organization has been providing programs and services to Calgary's vulnerable youth and families for nearly 40 years and has never experienced anything like this," she said.
The complex offers affordable housing that is open to the community, and is an independent living facility for 18 to 24 year olds who are "working or in school, have shown responsibility and met specific criteria to qualify for housing through McMan."
When the organization bought the complex in 2009, neighbours voiced concerns that the tenants would bring trouble to the area.
On Monday, Saliba said McMan has had regular meetings with the community association and immediately addresses the neighbourhood's concerns.
