Actors Ker Wells and Megan Stewart are recruiting actors, musicians and volunteers to take part in the River Clyde pageant.
The artistic directors plan to start an outdoor performance next summer that would have the audience move with the actors to different settings in New Glasgow.
"There will be scenes that happen there as the procession moves," said Wells.
At a community meeting Sunday, July 5, Wells and Stewart shared their plan with residents, interested actors and volunteers and asked for input.
"That to me is one of the most exciting things, these people come out of the woodwork and come to you with their enthusiasm and ideas," Wells said.
The pair's plan for the pageant include stilt walking, a moving choir, performers of all ages and puppets. The scenes will take place along the Hunter River, also known as the River Clyde.
Stewart hopes to draw attention to the importance of keeping rivers healthy.
"This creates awareness in a different way, besides what you would read in the newspaper or hear on the radio," said Stewart.
Wells and Stewart will continue their recruitment for the pageant in the days and weeks to come.
The concept is similar to The Victoria Playhouse's production "Follow the Fiddler" which ran from 2009 to 2011 in Victoria-by-the-Sea. It was billed as "P.E.I.'s first outdoor historical theatre pageant".
Wells is a graduate of the acting program at The National Theatre School of Canada, and a founding member of Primus Theatre, and co-founded Number Eleven Theatre.
