An eight-kilometre stretch of the Herb Gray Parkway will open Sunday night.
"I would like to thank the Windsor and Essex County community for their patience during construction," said Steven Del Duca, the provincial transportation minister. "With 90 per cent of the Herb Gray Parkway now complete, we come closer to realizing the transportation benefits the parkway will deliver to residents and drivers alike and the economic benefits this new parkway will bring to the region."
The $1.4-billion highway project consists of an extension of Highway 401, an extension of Highway 3 and the parkway trail network set within 120 hectares of green space.
Motorists will be able to drive through the parkway without having to stop at traffic signals.
Traffic will also be shifted from the continuing construction on the section that still has to be finished.
The rest of the 11-kilometre parkway is expected to be finished later this year.
