The Alberta government will review how it delivers mental health services to improve a situation Premier Rachel Notley says "is not good enough."
"Our current system has failed far too many Albertans," Notley said Monday, "And we are going to take action."
Notley asked Alberta Liberal Leader Dr. David Swann to co-chair a review committee with registered nurse and NDP MLA Danielle Larivee.
Swann said he was honoured to be part of the government's efforts to fix what he called an urgent situation.
"We have a huge deficit. We are leaving thousands and thousands of Albertans behind in the mental health system," he said.
"It has always been the poor sister in health care and stigma doesn't help."
Swann and Larivee are expected to have recommendations by the end of 2015.
