A 20-year-old man charged with the impaired-driving deaths of a taxi driver and his passenger has been granted bail.
Ali Montoya was in court Wednesday, where a judge granted him bail with conditions including 24-hour house arrest, except for medical emergencies and work.
Montoya is accused of running a red light on Macleod Trail and 12th Avenue S.E. on May 2, killing two people. A Cadillac Escalade hit a small car, which then hit the taxi. The driver of the small car was injured in the crash.
The 46-year-old driver of the taxi, Amritpal Kharbanda, died at the scene and his 25-year-old passenger, Jillian Lavallee, died in hospital hours later. Kharbanda left behind a wife and two children.
Lavallee's family is raising money to help Kharbanda's family.
