Bars, restaurants and lounges will be able to serve alcohol starting at 8 a.m. during the Calgary Stampede(external link), according to the Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission(external link).
It's part of a more flexible approach with liquor rules during the festivities "to enhance the experience," the AGLC said in a release.
On parade day, which is July 3, groups can apply for a licence to serve alcohol even earlier, starting at 7 or 7:30 a.m.
Having a beer, or something stronger, has become a tradition at some private Stampede parties.
The AGLC has been granting early liquor service hours for special events for years, from pancake breakfasts at the Stampede to large sporting events like the Olympics.
The applications for special event alcohol service is determined on a case-by-case basis by the AGLC.
The Calgary Stampede runs from July 3-12.
