FIFA scandal is just beginning of corruption in sports, says sports lawyer and Soccer Canada board member
The FIFA corruption scandal revealed this week has one member of Soccer Canada's board of directors demanding greater accountability in sports.
"Not only am I not happy. I am scandalized, I am furious," Amélia S. Fouques said. "This is not sports."

She has been actively tweeting all week about the FIFA scandal — to the point that, she said, Soccer Canada asked her to remove her critical tweets.
Bribery, match-fixing, fraud — for years now, FIFA has played defence against allegations of corruption.
But on Wednesday, soccer's governing body was dealt arguably its most damaging blow, when Swiss and American authorities arrested half a dozen high-ranking executives as part of a larger criminal investigation.
Corruption in Canada
Fouques of Soccer Canada said she believes there could be corruption here in Canada, and said she is going to ask the Canadian government and the RCMP to investigate sports organizations in the country — after FIFA's Women's World Cup is over. That event is taking place in several Canadian cities in June.
"Let's not take anything for granted," she said.
She said even though sports teams in Canada are private corporations, they do still receive federal, provincial and municipal subsidies, which makes them accountable to the public.
Fouques said Canada should consider having a sports ombudsman and a tip line where people could report concerns of corruption and other wrongdoing.
