Saskatchewan Premier Brad Wall has made a few changes to his provincial cabinet, naming Kevin Doherty to the finance portfolio.
CBC's Lauren Golosky was tweeting on the changes.
The previous minister of finance, Ken Krawetz, announced last year that he would not be running in the next provincial election. Kravetz, who was also deputy premier, was given a role as Legislative Secretary on Saskatchewan-Ukraine relations.
Here are the portfolio changes that were announced Thursday:
  • Kevin Doherty becomes Finance Minister.
  • Don McMorris becomes the new Deputy Premier. McMorris retains all of his current responsibilities, including Minister responsible for Crown Investments Corporation, Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority and Saskatchewan Government Insurance.
  • Scott Moe takes over from Doherty as Minister of Advanced Education
  • Jim Reiter adds Minister responsible for SaskTel to his current duties.
  • Herb Cox enters cabinet for the first time, taking over from Moe as Minister of Environment and Minister responsible for SaskWater and the Water Security Agency.
Wall is maintaining 18 cabinet ministers.
He said keeping continuity was a priority and he did not want to change ministers overseeing healthcare and highways, calling those challenging portfolios.
"It's not a very large shuffle but it's very much about continuity in terms of providing stable fiscal management," Wall said.
Under Saskatchewan's fixed election law, voters are not expected to hit the polls until next spring.
