A man found unconscious after a "serious assault" near Stinson Street and Victoria Avenue South earlier this week died in hospital Friday, and police homicide detectives have taken over the investigation.

The victim was 40-year-old William McConville of Hamilton, police say.

The incident prompted a hold and secure alarm at a central Hamilton school Tuesday.

Police didn't release any more information about suspects, but said Tuesday they were searching for two suspects.

​The victim was found unconscious in the area of Victoria Avenue South and Stinson Street around 11:05 a.m. Tuesday.
