Calgary contractor Kieron Warren pleads guilty to working without licence

Kieron Warren charged in 2013 under Criminal Code and Fair Trading Act

A Calgary contractor who was accused of bilking several clients out of thousands of dollars pleaded guilty Friday to operating a renovations company without a prepaid license.
Kieron Warren was first charged in the fall of 2013 under Alberta's Fair Trading Act and the Criminal Code, accused of taking nearly $160,000 from six couples in Calgary and Okotoks for work that was never completed.
Brian Chubb was one of six families who hired Warren's company Kreate Kitchens to renovate his home.
Chubb and his wife gave Warren $28,000 to remodel their kitchen.
But very little work was done — and what was done had to be ripped out, Chubb says.
Chubb said he is somewhat pleased with the guilty plea.
Lawyers for both sides have not been able to agree on the amount of restitution Warren owes his former clients.
The families say they are out about $400,000 — a figure Warren's lawyer Pawel Milczarek called astronomical.
Warren still faces theft and fraud charges under the Criminal Code and several additional charges under the Fair Trading Act relating to misleading customers and failing to provide refunds.
Warren will be back in court September.
