Lionel Perez calls on province to review parking rates policy for health care institutions
The significant parking fees at some Montreal health care facilities are creating extra stress for patients and their families, according to the city's executive committee member responsible for infrastructure.
A motion calling for reduced parking rates at health care centres is expected to be presented at Montreal City Hall next week.
It comes on the heels of the opening of the McGill University Health Centre's new superhospital.
The hospital has been up and running for three days, and patients are already complaining about the cost of parking.
It costs $15 to park for one hour. But if you stay more than 91 minutes, you have to pay the full 24 hour rate of $25.
Lionel Perez, Montreal's executive committee member responsible for infrastructure and a city councillor for the Darlington district of Côte-des-Neiges–Notre-Dame-de-Grâce, is behind the motion.
He's calling on the Quebec government to review its policy on parking rates at public health care institutions.
His motion calls the rates "prohibitive."
The motion is expected to be present at city council on May 4.
