Rick Strankman issues apology for poster
A fundraiser for Wildrose candidate Rick Strankman came under fire today after his campaign organized an old-fashioned pie auction that was labelled BYWP — or "bring your wife's pie."
Strankman is running in the rural riding of Drumheller-Stettler.
"This area is too big and too busy for traditional 'door-knocking,'" said the event poster. "Take a break from calving, farming, spring work and NHL playoffs to join your neighbours from near and far."
The poster caused quite a stir online, with some people questioning whether the wording was sexist. Others thought the saying was common in rural areas and the situation was being blown out of proportion.
"It's a cute concept, and I think it's funny!" Alberta resident Christina Holland posted to CBC Calgary's Facebook page. "We call people rednecks in this province and no one thinks that's in poor taste!!! I think his tweet blaming it on his volunteer is rude though."

Strankman apologized for the wording in a tweet.
Despite his regret, the twitterverse erupted Thursday morning with disbelief.
Others made light of the situation.
