A Grand Falls-Windsor man who was convicted of trying to murder the mother of his child has been sent back to jail for assault and theft.
Gregory Michael Brown, 40, was convicted of attempted murder after repeatedly stabbing his girlfriend in 1995.
He was released in 2010 and later returned to the province, where he assaulted his mother.
Brown was also convicted of theft from Canadian Tire in Grand Falls-Windsor.
A pre-sentence report filed in August 2015 assessed Brown as a high risk to become further involved in criminal activity.
In that report, his mother said she "fears for her safety."

Counselling sought

In 2014, Brown was asked to attend counselling. That program was delayed outside of his control and when it was available, Brown refused to go, but in October 2015 he agreed to seek counselling.
Since then, Brown has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and anxiety. Brown is also enrolled in an adult basic education (ABE) program.
He also admitted himself to a psych ward in October, where he received further counselling and medications.
Brown was sentenced to 45 days for two counts of theft, and 30 days for the assault on his mother.
He will serve 75 days in jail, but only on the weekends, in order for him to complete the ABE program in which he is currently enrolled.
The Crown agreed to an intermittent sentence, as long as Brown sought to complete the ABE program.
Brown will also serve a 12-month probation sentence, with an alcohol prohibition.
In addition, he's been ordered not to have any contact with his mother, unless invited by her. He is also no longer allowed in the Grand Falls-Windsor Canadian Tire.
He will be put forward for additional counselling, as deemed appropriate by his probation officer.
