About the race

Premier Jim Prentice, leader of the PC party, won this northwest Calgary riding in an October 2014 byelection. He is running against four other candidates: Green Party Leader Janet Keeping, Wildrose Keelan Frey, NDP Anne Wilson and Liberal Ali Bin Zahid.

Division profile

This riding is bordered(external link) to the east by Simons Valley Drive, Beddington Trail N.W. and Shaganappi Trail N.W. The southern border consists of John Laurie Boulevard N.W., Sarcee Trail N.W., Stoney Trail N.W., Country Hills Boulevard N.W. and 112th Avenue N.W. The city limits form the north and west boundaries. Communities in the riding include Hamptons, Edgemont and Hidden Valley.

Political history

2014: PC leader Jim Prentice won a byelection, becoming premier of the province.
2004-2014: Len Webber won three successive elections for the PC party. In his final year, he left the party to sit as an independent, finally resigning to represent the Conservative Party in the next national federal election.
1989-2004: PC Pat Nelson (formerly known as Pat Black) held the riding through several elections. Nelson had a variety of cabinet posts, including finance, energy, deputy government house leader, economic development and government services.
1982-1988: PC Janet Koper won in the 1982 and 1986 elections.
1971-1982: PC Stewart McCrae held the seat after winning a 1973 byelection triggered by the death of PC Len Werry, who was elected in 1971.
