About the race
Premiers Ralph Klein and Alison Redford have held this west-central Calgary riding, which went to PC Gordon Dirks following a 2014 byelection. Candidates from five other parties are vying for the seat: Alberta Party Leader Greg Clark, Wildrose Megan Brown, Social Credit Larry Heather, Liberal John P. Roggeveen and NDP Catherine Welburn.

The riding is bordered on the south by Glenmore Trail S.W. and the city limits, on the west by Sarcee Trail S.W., on the north by 26th Avenue, 14th Street, Cameron Avenue, Cliff Street S.W. and the Elbow River, and on the east by Macleod Trail S.W. It includes high-income neighbourhoods like Mount Royal, Roxboro, Elbow Park, and Parkhill.
Political history
2014: PC Gordon Dirks won an October byelection.
2008: PC Alison Redford defeated incumbent Liberal Craig Cheffins by 419 votes. She later resigned from cabinet to run for the PC leadership, which she won. Redford was sworn in as premier on Oct. 7, 2011. She resigned in 2014.
2007: Cheffins won the seat in a June byelection, defeating PC Brian Heninger by 784 votes.
1989-2007: Klein held this seat through several elections. He won the PC leadership race in December of 1992, and was re-elected in the riding in the elections of 1993, 1997, 2001 and 2004. Klein resigned from the legislature in January of 2007.
