About the race
In 2012, PC David Dorward won Edmonton-Gold Bar, ending the Liberals' 26-year hold on the riding. In 2015, the PC candidate will again face Marlin Schmidt (NDP) who finished in second place with 5,055 votes to Dorward's 5,806.
Division profile:
This east-central Edmonton riding is bordered on the north mostly by the North Saskatchewan River, on the east by the city limits, on the south mostly by Argyll Road and the Sherwood Park Freeway, and on the west by the Mill Creek ravine. There is a heavy industrial section in the southeast which includes Morris Industrial, Gainer Industrial, Lambton Industrial as well as Eastgate Business Park.

2012: David Dorward took the riding for the PCs after popular Liberal MLA Hugh MacDonald decided not to run again.
2008: MacDonald kept his seat in race with PC challenger Dorward
2004: MacDonald dominated with a 6,226-vote lead over PC Manjit Dhaliwal.
2001: MacDonald won his second term in office
1997: MacDonald went to the legislature for the first time after defeating PC candidate Susan Green
