Another St. John's restaurant has closed down, after 38 years in business.
Papa's Pier 17 in Churchill Square shut its doors for the final time on Saturday.
Manager Dallas McCormack, who has been working at the restaurant since it opened in 1977, said there's just too much competition to contend with.
"When we were open before, you know, years ago, there was hardly any restaurants in St. John's," she said.
"Now, we've got more restaurants than we can count on our fingers. And I guess all the competition didn't help us any."
Another established St. John's restaurant, Bianca's on Water Street, also closed in January after 23 years because of a decline in clientele.
McCormack said many of the franchise restaurants coming to St. John's over the past few years are hurting local businesses.
She said back when she started working the restaurant scene was quite different in St. John's.
"When the restaurant opened, we used to have a lineup waiting to get in the door," she said.
"They used to come down from Big Ben's, cause Big Ben's is just up the road from us, and say around 9 or 10 o'clock the place used to fill up."
"We were the only restaurant in that area at the time."
