Council members want to have a look at car charging options
City officials have been asked to look into the topic of a public electric car charging station for Regina.
Council member Wade Murray brought the question to council Monday night and it was handed over to officials to research.
"There's more and more electric cars coming on the market," Murray said. "We're seeing more and more people choose those electric cars. The next question is, does it make sense for municipalities to help support that green initiative?"
There are already at least three private car charging stations in operation in Regina — at hotels and retail locations — and at least one more in the works.
However, Murray said he wants to know if there's a market in Regina for a public car charging service and what role the city should play.
"How do we roll it out? Does it make sense? Are we even somebody who should be involved in it?" Murray said. "There are businesses and hotels that have [car chargers] because they want to encourage people to come to their business. Does city hall need to do that?"
The plan is for city staff to come back with some answers at a later date.
