Team New Brunswick enters final stretch of Canada Games

New Brunswick's 7 medals puts the province in 6th position overall in the medal standings
New Brunswick athletes are heading into the final stretch at the Canada Games in Prince George, British Columbia, after collecting seven medals in the first week.
The province’s ringette team collected a bronze medal on Friday after defeating Quebec 7-6. This is the best result ever for the New Brunswick ringette team.
Speed skaters also earned spots on the Canada Games podium at the end of the first week.
New Brunswick won silver in the women’s 3,000-metre relay.
The men’s team won bronze in the 3,000-metre short track event.
Team New Brunswick is entering the second week of competition in several sports, including the return of squash and a first-ever appearance of trampoline.
New Brunswick will also be competing in judo, badminton, figure skating, synchronized swimming, cross-country skiing, women’s curling and men’s hockey.
New Brunswickers were competing in two events on Sunday.
Fredericton’s Luke Burton lost 3-0 to Alberta’s Mike Mehl in squash.
As well, Team New Brunswick lost 5-3 to British Columbia in men’s hockey.
New Brunswick's men's hockey team will be playing Ontario on Monday and Manitoba on Tuesday.
On Monday, Louis Fortin will be competing in the 2.5-kilometre classic event. Fortin competed in the 2014 Paralympics in Sochi.
New Brunswick's seven medals in the Canada Games, put the province in sixth position in the overall medal standings.
The leaders in terms of total medals are: Quebec with 83 medals, Ontario with 44 and British Columbia with 41.
