Team New Brunswick: Big day for women's short-track speed skaters

New Brunswick's undefeated women's hockey team plays Newfoundland and Labrador at 4:30 p.m. AT

New Brunswick’s women’s short-track speed skating team had an impressive showing at the Canada Games in Prince George, B.C., on Sunday.
All members of the team placed in the top 15 in the 1,500-metre event.
While Quebec skaters ended up sweeping the podium, three New Brunswick skaters finished in the top 10.
  • Courtney Sarault (Moncton), 7th
  • Heidi Evans (Fredericton), 8th
  • Sarah Gilbert (Fredericton), 9th
  • Alyssa Seymour (Baxters Corner), 13th
  • Rikki Doak (Fredericton), 14th
On the men's side, Brendan Corey, of Fredericton, finished seventh in the 1,500-metre short-track event. Other strong performances included:
  • Roger Fulton (Fredericton), 12th
  • Paul Tremblay (Saint John), 17th
  • Seamus Smith (Saint Andrews), 22nd
  • Brady Oakes (Dalhousie), 23rd
The province’s ringette team beat Team Quebec 6-5, in a tight game after New Brunswick led 5-2 heading into the final period. On Saturday, the ringette team lost 7-4 to Team Manitoba.
There are several key events for Team New Brunswick on Monday.
The undefeated women's hockey team faces off against Newfoundland and Labrador at 4:30 p.m. AT. Both teams have identical 2-0 records.

Target shooters Emily Dean and Delayne Donahue, both of St. Stephen, will be competing in the women's air rifle team event at 3:15 p.m. AT.

New Brunswick’s alpine ski team will hit the slopes in the giant slalom event, including para-athlete Christel Robichaud.
New Brunswick has not won any medals yet. Quebec has 12 medals, while Ontario and British Columbia are tied with 10 medals.
