For the Cumberbatches and Streeps of the world, the day of the Academy Awards is just like most other days. But for Montreal animator Torill Kove, it's a big deal -- even though she's already gone twice and won once already.
Ms. Kove's latest film, Me and My Moulton, is nominated for Best Animated Short. It's the NFB's 73rd Oscar nomination, the most ever for an organization or production company outside of Hollywood.
"I do feel like I'm part of this amazing Canadian animation legacy," Kove tells As It Happens guest host Carol Off. "It's really a wonderful place for an animator to work, especially for animators who are interested in making personal films, to explore new ways of doings things, make their auteur pieces."
Kove has been nominated for an Academy Award for each short in her personal animated shorts trilogy, including Moulton, 1999's My Grandmother Ironed the King's Shirts and 2006's The Danish Poet, which won the award.
Here is a clip from the film -- in which three sisters ask their unconventional parents to get them something all the other kids have.
The full short is available to stream online until Sunday, Jan. 17 on the NFB's website.
