Power out for 4,000 homes until Thursday after Winnipeg outage

Power restored to 5,000 homes just after 8 p.m., says Manitoba Hydro

Nearly 4,000 homeowners in Garden City will be left in the dark until Thursday morning, Manitoba Hydro said, after a power outage that swept through the north part of Winnipeg Wednesday.
Around 9,000 customers were affected by the initial outage, which Manitoba Hydro officials said was caused after the top of a hydro pole caught on fire near McPhillips Street and Kingsbury Avenue around 6 p.m.

Winnipeg's warm temperatures and freezing drizzle Wednesday caused the pole to catch fire.
Hydro officials said power has been restored to roughly 5,000 customers, who were put on an alternate power source around 8:15 p.m.
But hydro said those in Garden City will be without power until at least 12 a.m. or 1 a.m. Thursday.
Hydro officials are working on the damaged pole to restore power to those still affected.
