Two women have been killed in a crash on Highway 1 roughly 30 kilometres east of Revelstoke, B.C., police said Friday.
A man in critical condition was rushed to hospital from the scene of the four-vehicle collision near Canyon Hot Springs.
The highway between Revelstoke and Golden, B.C. has been closed in both directions. It is expected to reopen sometime between 11 p.m. and midnight, according to DriveBC(external link).
Revelstoke RCMP Cpl. Thomas Blakney said the crash involved a car and three pickup trucks, including one towing a trailer. Although road conditions have been slippery in some sections and include packed snow, he declined to comment when asked whether the weather was a factor in the collision.
The names of the two deceased have not yet been released as police are trying to determine their identities and contact their families.
The crash was the third fatal collision in the past week on that stretch of the Trans-Canada Highway.
On Saturday, two men in their 20s died west of Revelstoke, near the Three Valley Gap area when a semi-trailer and car collided.
On Dec. 30, a 27-year-old man from the Lower Mainland was killed approximately four kilometres west of Golden when two semi-trailers collided.
