Lighthouse was threatened by eroding shoreline
The Cape Bear Lighthouse in eastern P.E.I. was moved away from an eroding cliff Monday.
The position of the 130-year-old lighthouse has been a concern for several years. Cape Bear Lighthouse and Marconi Station Incorporated, which is dedicated to preserving the structure, purchased new land for the lighthouse in the summer.
It took three days to move the 12-metre-tall lighthouse onto the trailer, but just a couple of minutes to move it inland about 20 meters.
This is the second time the lighthouse has been moved. It was moved in 1946 because of erosion as well.
