Taliban-affliated Gunmen stormed the military-run Army Public School in Peshawar, Pakistan, killing 141 children and staff. The majority of the victims were students at the school.
Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), a militant group bent on overthrowing the government, claimed responsibility for the attack, saying it was to revenge the killings of Taliban members at the hands of Pakistani authorities.
"Peshawar was once known the city of flowers; is now known as the city of small caskets," the organizers wrote on the event's Facebook page.(external link)
"We wish to create awareness among the children and public that militancy knows no religion, no nationality and all it does is to kill humanity."
