Gregory Houle gets 10 years for beating partner to death

Cherry Ledesma's body discovered decomposing under a pile of laundry in 2011

A Calgary man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for the beating death of his common-law wife in 2011.
Gregory Houle pleaded guilty to manslaughter in December 2013.

He was originally charged with second-degree murder.
Police found the body of 45-year-old Cherry Ledesma decomposing under a pile of laundry in the home the couple shared with two roommates.
Police had been called to the home 37 times in the year preceding Ledesma's death.
Houle will serve roughly nine more years after time already spent in custody.
