The reportedly tight race between Vision Vancouver mayoral incumbent Gregor Robertson and his NPA challenger Kirk LaPointe seems to be translating into turnout at the polls today.
Voters across the city are reporting long line-ups(external link) at many polling locations.
Outside the Kitsilano Community Centre voters were reporting waits of up to an hour-and-a-half.(external link)
The West End Community Centre, the Roundhouse Community Centre, Commercial Drive and Fairview and the Mount Pleasant Community Centre were also reporting long voter line-ups.
Pundits say the passion to vote may have come from a heated and increasingly nasty campaign that saw incumbent mayor (external link)Gregor Robertson launch a lawsuit over attack ads.
His NPA opponent Kirk LaPointe is a political rookie, but that hasn't stopped him from being a contender in a race most agree is just too close to call.
