Trick-or-treaters packed the Indian and Métis Friendship Centre on Friday night for Safe Halloween, an event that started after a 2010 triple shooting in Winnipeg's North End.
The friendship centre's Kerri Johnston says the event, now in it's fifth year, brings the community together for children.
"I think it's a great idea because this is the first place they come so, when they go out in the community they feel a little bit safer. Everybody's been to the same place, they can follow one another. They feel safer," she said.
The friendship centre estimates about 2,000 kids came out for Safe Halloween.
