Cam Guthrie elected mayor of Guelph

Cam Guthrie is Guelph's new mayor, beating incumbent Karen Farbridge.
Guthrie, who was a Ward 4 councillor for the city, took the seat with 50.76 per cent of the vote, or 19,670 votes, according to unofficial results released by the city. Farbridge received 14,170 votes.
Guelph's voter turnout was 44.6 per cent, a significant jump over 2010, when voter turnout was 33.9 per cent. The city used online voting for the first time in this year's municipal election.
Farbridge was first been elected mayor in 2000, but was unsuccessful in her bid for re-election in 2003. She prevailed again in 2006, and was re-elected in 2010.
