Doug Craig re-elected Cambridge mayor

Doug Craig has been re-elected as mayor of Cambridge, winning his fifth term with 13,484 votes.
His second-place opponent Linda Ann Whetham trailed with 4,556 votes, according to unofficial results released by the city.
"I feel very good in terms of the election, the team of people that helped put me in first place tonight and I'm really pleased about the final outcome," said Craig, surrounded by jubilant supporters. "I'm going to continue on in terms of moving this city ahead and setting a pace of progress that is going to be balanced across the city."
Craig said he has three major priorities for the next four years.
"I made it very clear during the election that we needed to work on getting a Go train to Cambridge, that we needed to accelerate a bypass around the city and also to work with sports groups in terms of going ahead with a visionary process for building a new sports complex for the City of Cambridge."
Voter turnout is reported at 29.89 per cent, less than a 1 percentage point increase from the 2010 election, when turnout was 29.37 per cent. With the debut of online voting, advanced voter turnout had improved significantly, but did not affect the overall participation rates.
"I think the percentage is holding," said Craig. "What you do is you celebrate the fact that the people that did come out to vote, and you accept their nomination in terms of voting for who they did and you move ahead with that."
