Police release footage of 3 vehicles they say are connected to fatal shooting
Less than half an hour before Jelena Loncar was fatally shot outside a Wellington Street nightclub in August, police responded to reports of shots fired near a strip club on The Queensway.
Toronto police say a group of three vehicles they believe are connected to shooting of Loncar, 32, outside the C Lounge were 25 minutes earlier in an area where shots were fired in the parking lot of The House of Lancaster, a strip club located at 689 The Queensway.
Loncar died after she was shot Aug. 26 once outside the C Lounge, a nightclub on Wellington Street west of Spadina Avenue, just after 3 a.m. Police don't believe Loncar was targeted in the shooting. The man police believe was the intended target was shot multiple times outside the club but survived.
Police say the shooting outside C Lounge happened after a group of eight to 10 men stepped out of their cars.
Police say forensic evidence links the crime scene at the Queensway with the one outside the C Lounge.
Police also released security footage Wednesday from the night of the shooting. The footage shows three vehicles travelling eastbound on King Street West and turning south onto Portland Street prior to the shooting that killed Loncar.
The vehicles are described as:
- A base model Chrysler 300 either 2011 or 2012 model year. The car is white with no sunroof, standard rims, no front licence plate or front licence plate holder and a small black antenna.
- A dark-coloured four-door vehicle, no sun roof, standard rims with a small spoiler lip on the trunk.
- A dark-coloured four-door vehicle with front, side and rear windows all tinted, no sunroof and standard rims.
Police are also looking for a person of interest in the shooting who they describe as:
- A black male.
- 18 to 25 years old.
- Five foot ten inches to six feet tall.
- Thin build.
- Gold grills (capped teeth) on both his upper and possibly lower teeth.
- Short hair, possibly in corn rows.
Lana Loncar, the younger sister of the shooting victim, spoke at Wednesday's news conference.
"I just want to let you know my sister was literally the nicest person in the world," she said. "She greeted everyone with a massive hug. She attended every birthday, every celebration. I didn't just lose a sister, I lost my best friend and a roommate and my parents lost their oldest child."
Police are asking anyone with more information about the shooting to come forward. They said there is nothing in Jelena Loncar's background to suggest she was a target of the shooting.
Sgt. Debbie Harris of the Toronto Police homicide squad said she is "extremely confident" they will find the people responsible for the shootings.
