We want your images of your life on Oct. 17, 2014
It's almost time, Nova Scotia.
Oct. 17 is a big day for us. That's the day we're shooting A Day in the Life of Nova Scotia, and we need your help.
If the project sounds familiar, here's why:
Back in 1993, CBC News produced the original A Day in the Life and it was shot entirely with news cameras. Viewers watched a wedding, a baby being born, inmates in a penitentiary going about their day. It was an attempt to capture the rich tapestry of daily life in Nova Scotia.
More than two decades later, we're going to do it again. But this time, we're looking for an even richer experience — one that will come from you.
On Oct. 17, we're asking you to shoot some photos or short videos. Chances are your camera isn't too far away these days. When you've got something you like, share it with us.
We will set up a live feed so you can watch the incoming media as it arrives on your desktop or on your mobile device. And when we have all the photos and video, we will edit together a new documentary — our virtual gift to you.
Here's how to share your media:
- Twitter: Tweet your photo and videos using #DayintheLifeNS
- Instagram: Use #DayintheLifeNS on public Instagram postings (video or photos)
- Facebook: Use #DayintheLifeNS on public Facebook postings (video or photos)
- Vine: Use #DayintheLifeNS on Vine postings
- Email: Send photos and video (less than 30 seconds long) to DayintheLifeNS@cbc.ca
- YouTube: Post your video to a private or public channel and send us the link by emailing DayintheLifeNS@cbc.ca
FAQ: A Day in the Life of Nova Scotia
Q: Are you looking for still photos or videos?
A: Both! The goal is the richest, most diverse and exciting cross-section of Nova Scotia possible.
Q: What kind of subject matter do you want?
A: Almost anything goes. We want to get up into the sky, down under the ground (we are talking to you, Windsor Salt employees), on the water and underwater. From Brier Island to Meat Cove. Show us what you see and what you love about Nova Scotia. Who do you love? We'd like to meet them, too.
Q:What don't you want?
A: Keep it clean, folks. This is a family-friendly project. Some things are better kept private.
Q: Should I narrate my video?
A: Sure, if you'd like. Especially if it helps everyone else understand where and when you're taking the video.
Q: My images won't send. What do I do?
A: Email us at DayintheLifeNS@cbc.ca and someone will help you. Operators will be standing by.
Q: Can I send you images from another day?
A: We love it when you share. But for this project, we’re just looking for images from Friday, Oct. 17, 2014.
Q: I work the night shift. Is that a problem?
A: Not at all. The day begins at 12:01 a.m. and runs for 24 hours.
Q: Does CBC own my images forever?
A: No, you still own the images. But if you share them with us, we assume you're giving permission for us to include it in our TV and online presentations.
Q: Will CBC pay for my images?
A: No.
Q: When and where can I see the finished documentary?
A: We will need a few days to put it together. Once it's done, we will post it to cbc.ca/ns. And we will run it on CBC News: Nova Scotia at Six. Don't worry — we will give you plenty of warning.
