Kanata South is made up of four main neighbourhoods: Katimavik-Hazeldean, Glen Cairn, Bridlewood and Trailwest. There are older suburban neighbourhoods but also new development projects sprouting up throughout the ward.

The CBC Street Talk team was in the ward on Tuesday Oct. 7 at the Kanata Leisure Centre and Wave Pool to hear directly from you, the voters.

One of the big issues in this ward is flooding. This past summer residents in Bridlewood faced water-logged basements and floating cars. The area is prone to flooding in part because of sub-par drainage and aging sewers and watermains. Every election, flooding sprouts up as an election issue.

Another issue is transportation. There are many complaints from residents about how well OC Transpo is serving this ward. Some have argued that bus service within Kanata is too infrequent.

Allan Hubley, the incumbent, is running for re-election. He was nearly acclaimed but two candidates — Bruce Faulkner and David Abuwa — threw their hats in the ring on the last day for registration.

CBC Ottawa asked all the candidates running for city council to record a one-minute pitch and tell voters why they think they're the best candidate for their ward. The pitches below are from those who participated in this project.
