The Wildrose Party has picked Calgary public school board trustee Sheila Taylor as its candidate for this month's byelection in Calgary-West.
Taylor says the governing Progressive Conservatives can't make the changes Albertans need, so she agreed to the Wildrose Party's request to run in the riding.
Taylor has asked to take an unpaid leave of absence from her position with the Calgary Board of Education (CBE) during the campaign.
“The board of trustees has received a request from trustee Taylor to take a leave of absence from her role of trustee at the CBE while she campaigns for the byelection in Calgary-West. The board will consider this request as soon as possible," said school board chair Joy Bowen-Eyre in a statement issued Wednesday afternoon.
The riding of Calgary-West became vacant this week with the resignation of former Tory MLA Ken Hughes.
Alberta voters go to the polls in four provincial byelections on Oct. 27.
