Won't say how much he'd raise tax to avoid possible deficit of $79 million next year
Mayoral candidate David Sanders poked holes at some of his rivals' tax proposals but he wouldn't say specifically how much he would raise property taxes.
He said a tax freeze is "undoable."
Sanders said the city could face a $79 million budget deficit in 2015 and even more the year after.
He said raiding the city's reserve funds isn't a sound idea.
A tax increase is needed, he said, along with some increases in user fees and a negotiation with other levels of government for more revenue. Sanders said the business tax rate and frontage levies would remain the same.
He said the increase can't be decided until he gets a better look at the city's finances.
