A City of Winnipeg committee has rejected a request to expand Bonnycastle School in Waverley Heights.
The Pembina Trails School Division wants to build eight new classrooms and a daycare for 74 children just off Chancellor Drive.
But on Wednesday, the city's appeal committee upheld an earlier decision to reject a land variance to build the addition.
The city argues that the extra traffic associated with the proposed addition would have a negative impact on the surrounding area.
As well, it noted that five extra schools are planned for the Waverley West area.
School officials have said there is an urgent need for more classroom space.
