The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary confirmed Monday it's calling in the Ontario Provincial Police to investigate a fatal motor vehicle accident in Kilbride Sunday.
RNC Chief Bill Janes said the investigation will look into what happened early Sunday morning after a parked police cruiser noticed a speeder.
The OPP will examine what occurred in the three kilometre distance between when the officer noticed the speeder and the officer came across the crash scene where the driver, 22, was discovered dead.
"What happened in the time frame between the officer's observation and the collision is the subject of the Ontario Provincial Police officers' observation," Janes said. "So it would be inappropriate for me to comment on the intricacies of their investigation, but their investigation will cover that time frame and any others that they see appropriate,"
"The suspect vehicle or the vehicle that was seen speeding was headed north. And the police vehicle was parked when it made its observation and then subsequently about three kilometres later the person collided with the utility pole and succumbed to her injuries at the scene."
