Island's last dermatologist retired in 2011
The lone position for a dermatologist on the Island has been vacant since 2011, when the last doctor in that specialty retired.
Dr. Catherine Boivin is currently completing her residence training at Laval University in Quebec.
“I am very grateful for this exciting opportunity of starting my dermatology practice in such a wonderful community as Charlottetown," said Boivin in a news release.
In the absence of a dermatologist, five general practitioners with dermatology education and training have been providing those services. Those doctors will continue to work in partnership with Boivin.
Boivin will begin seeing patients January 12. Consultation requests will be accepted the week before at the Parkdale Medical Centre.
