Some Calgarians got a sneak peek at what the new library slated for the East Village could look like at an open house tonight.
While the renderings of the new building were not released to the media, a few were tweeted out by the Calgary Public Library and East Village Twitter accounts.
Architectural firms Snøhetta and DIALOG are the companies behind the design for the new $245-million central library.
Construction is currently underway to encapsulate a section of the LRT line east of City Hall so the library can be built over top of it.
More designs are expected to be released on Sept. 23.
The library is expected to be finished by 2018.
The current Central Library at 616 Macleod Trail S.E. was built in two phases in 1963 and 1974 to serve a population of less than 400,000. The new one will be two-thirds larger.
