Council votes 40-3, with Coun. Josh Colle, Mayor Rob Ford and Coun. Doug Ford opposing
A Toronto homeless shelter will have a new home on Vaughan Road after council voted in favour of its relocation on Wednesday afternoon.
The Cornerstone Place shelter was located at 833 St. Clair Ave. W., for more than a decade.
But that property was sold to a developer two years ago, which meant the shelter needed a new home.
The proposed new location for the shelter was a property at 616 Vaughan Rd., near Oakwood Avenue.
City staff had recommended that council approve moving the shelter to this location, though some local residents were not pleased with the proposal.
On Wednesday afternoon, however, council voted 40-3 in favour of moving the shelter to the Vaughan Road property.
Coun. Josh Colle, Mayor Rob Ford and his brother, Coun. Doug Ford, were the three opposing votes.
The vote on the shelter relocation came on the third day of a marathon council meeting that is the last of the current council term.
