Paramedics tried to resuscitate 21-year-old victim, but he died in hospital Saturday morning
A 21-year-old man has died after he was stabbed in the stomach outside an Elgin Street bar, police say.
Police and paramedics responded to a report of a man stabbed at about 2:35 a.m. Saturday in front of 360 Elgin St., an address shared by two bars — The Standard and Living Room.
Paramedics said the man was stabbed in the stomach and he lost his pulse on the way to hospital. Paramedics tried to resuscitate him and doctor tried to perform emergency surgery.
However, police said the victim died Saturday morning and they have begun a homicide investigation.
On Saturday, neighbours and family confirmed the victim was Jabeir Jemmie. One neighbour said they were in "a state of shock."
Fight started in bar, continued outside
Police sources also said the victim was involved in a fight inside The Living Room bar and was "very drunk" before he was kicked out of the bar. The man then became involved in a fight along Elgin Street soon after, sources said.
The police’s major crimes unit is leading the investigation and they closed Frank Street west of Elgin and Jack Purcell Lane between Waverley Street and Elgin.
This is Ottawa's fourth homicide of 2014. There were no arrests or suspects in the case.
Anyone with information about this stabbing is asked to contact police at 613-236-1222, ext. 5493.
In May, a man was denied entry into The Living Room bar, which led to a confrontation with bouncers. The man unloaded 10 gun shots at the bouncers as they left for the night from the club's back door, police said at the time.
Nobody was injured in that case.
