Hercules star posts dramatic photo he says shows wreckage caused by suspected drunk driver
Dwayne Johnson, the American actor and former professional wrestler known as The Rock, says he's grateful after his mom and cousin survived what he describes as a head-on collision caused by a suspected drunk driver.
The photo, posted on his Instagram account, shows an emergency worker attending to two badly damaged vehicles with an ambulance in the background. The SUV on the right appears to be the white Cadillac Escalade he bought his mother, Ata, for Christmas in 2012.
In the accompanying caption, the Hollywood actor and former WWE star describes how his reaction evolved from anger to relief:
"First reaction is to find the person who did this and do unrelenting harm to them. But then you realize the most important thing is my family lived thru this and we can hug each other that much tighter these days. Hug your own family tighter today and be grateful you can tell them you love them."
His cousin, WWE NXT wrestler Lina Fanene, and his mother were reportedly driving home from a charity banquet last week in Florida when the crash happened.
In what is now an eerie "before" picture, Fanene posted an image to her Instagram account showing the two women getting ready to leave for the event on Aug. 2.
It's not clear what injuries the women suffered, but Fanene posted another photo on Friday showing Johnson visiting her in the hospital. Both appear to be in good spirits, making goofy faces for the camera.
Johnson, whose latest movie Hercules is in theatres, has been open about his family's influence on his drive to succeed.
In an interview with CBC Arts reporter Eli Glasner, the 42-year-old revealed he was motivated to make it in Hollywood by the desire buy this family a house and car.
