The 5-year-old boy and his grandparents disappeared from Calgary nearly a month ago. Douglas Garland of Airdrie is charged with their murders but their bodies have not been found.
Darcy Oliver, the nephew of Alvin Liknes, attended the vigil. He hopes the support the O’Brien and Liknes families have received from across the country will help them find their loved ones.
“It's been very heart wrenching. You know, you want to look but you don't want to find, if that makes any sense at all,” he said.
“But we do want to find, you know. We want to close, put a closer to it and move on with our lives.”
Organizers of the vigil said the mystery and tragedy surrounding the family's disappearance has touched them deeply.
