A pair of new faces will be joining council for the final months of its current term.
Ceta Ramkhalawansingh and James Maloney were appointed today to fill vacancies created by the departures of former councillors Peter Milczyn and Adam Vaughan.
Milczyn was elected as an MPP in the June 12 election, while Vaughan won a federal seat in a June 30 byelection.
Ramkhalawansingh, a retired city bureaucrat, takes on the job in Ward 20 Trinity-Spadina, while Maloney will take on the duties in Ward 5 Etobicoke-Lakeshore. They will serve as caretaker candidates for the remainder of the term.
Not all members of council were impressed by the appointments.
"They really won’t be able to accomplish very much," said Coun. Denzil Minnan-Wong, noting that the newly appointed councillors will only participate in a handful of meetings before the Oct. 27 election.
