Conservative MP for South Shore – St Margaret’s Gerald Keddy announced he will not be seeking re-election in 2015.

Keddy, first elected in June 1997, has served almost 17 years as a conservative MP.

"I have been extremely honoured and proud to serve the people of South Shore – St. Margaret’s for the last 17 years,” said Keddy. “I appreciate the confidence that the voters have shown in me and have immensely enjoyed being part of the Conservative Party of Canada. They are a great team of dedicated Canadians, who have brought positive change to our country."

Keddy will serve out the remainder of his term. He said he is dedicated to serving his constituents until October 2015.

During his 17-year tenure, Keddy held many portfolios including Party Whip of the Progressive Conservative Party while serving in Opposition.

In Government, Keddy was named Chair of the House of Commons Fisheries Committee, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of International Trade and for the Atlantic Gateway.

He currently holds the position of Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of National Revenue and for the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency.

During his political career, the 61 year old Keddy focused his efforts on transportation and economic issues, community funding, and infrastructure.

“In every job, there is a right time to move on. For me, that time has come,” said Keddy. “This decision has not been an easy one and I am extremely grateful to my family, my incredible staff and volunteers and my constituents for their loyalty and constant support.”
