Pierre Karl Péladeau, a Parti Québécois MNA and avid cyclist, is in a Sherbrooke hospital recovering from eight fractures after a bike accident in the Eastern Townships over the weekend.

According to the PQ, he was injured on Sunday after he hit a hole in the pavement while riding down a hill in the provincial park in Orford.

Péladeau broke his collarbone, pelvis, shoulder bone and some ribs.

"I want to tell my colleagues that I anticipated with great emotion the beginning of the parliamentary session. I wish my fellow members of the Parti Québécois, and all members of the National Assembly, a very good return. Unfortunately, this bicycle accident will keep me in bed for a while," Péladeau said in a statement.

He and his former spouse Julie Snyder have been active on social media providing updates.

"Fortunately he was wearing a helmet. It saved his life," Snyder said on her Facebook page Tuesday evening.

While he may not be present at the National Assembly, the MNA for St‑Jérôme said he'd continue working while he convalesces.
