The contract for the head of Memorial University was renewed for a second five-year term in a unanimous vote by the Board of Regents.
Gary Kachanoski's first term as university president was set to expire in mid-2015.
The board announced on Thursday night Kachanoski would be serving in the role for an additional term.
"Our university's upward trajectory at the national level is clear and the future of Memorial University is brighter than ever. We are growing and evolving in many ways, and at an impressive pace, so I'm excited and humbled to continue this journey with Memorial's partners and friends," Kachanoski said.
Iris Petten, chair of the Board of Regents, said in a release Thursday night that Kachanoski's appointment was unanimously approved.
Kachanoski will serve in the role until June 2020.
